  1. Films:

    1. Dune directed by David Lynch.

    2. The original Lord of the Rings trilogy, with Return of the King being the personal favourite. Do not mention the Hobbit movies around me, they are just terrible.

3.Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Raincoat or The Phantom of the Opera. They’re just great.

    Books:

I took some time thinking about what books I was going to recommend to you all, and I ended up deciding on these:

1.The Inheritance Cycle, by Christopher Paolini. Hands down, this four book series about Dragon Rider Eragon in the fantastical land of Alagaesia, is one of the greatest series I’ve ever read. If you’re into very detailed fantasy writing, similar to that of Tolkien, the series is well worth a read.

    2. The Forever War by Joe Haldeman. The story of William Mandela, a physics graduate with an IQ of more than 150, who is drafted into the UNEF (United Nations Exploratory Force) as an elite space marine to fight the invading forces of "Taurans" who are attacking Earth and her ships. This book is focused more on the concepts of space travel, time dilation,time/relativity, and how objects move through space, with a huge emphasis on propulsion. The story line focuses on William Mandela and how the Earth he knows changes as he is deployed over and over again all over the galaxy. Mandela is cryogenically frozen, so each time he is roused, he wakes up to a society that has changed drastically due to time dilation. The winner of the prestigious sci-fi Nebula award, not only is this book for sci-fi fans, but also for persons interested in U.S foreign policy and Cold War history, since this book is a metaphor to the Vietnam War, if read carefully.

3.La Tregua, by Mario Benedetti, and anything written by Isabel Allende or Julio Cortazar. Outstanding writers in spanish, their writings are full of emotion, colour, and superb dialogues that really display the struggles of being human and overcoming odds.

    Musician/Artists:

    1. Twenty One Pilots.

    2. Jesse and Joy. Popular in Mexico, don’t know about here, but they are worth listening to if you like good vocals and soft guitar.

    3. Camila. Another Mexican band which I can only compare to being One Direction-ish but waaaaaaaayy better.

    -Daniel Smith

  5. Hi, my name is Abigail Karrh but y'all can call me Abbey!
    Books
    - Pedro Paramo by Juan Rulfo is my favorite, it may take two reads and some research but it's worth it.
    - The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
    - The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe series by C.S. Lewis
    Movies
    - "Band of Brothers" is an amazing HBO Miniseries.
    - "The Princess Bride" is one of my all-time favorites.
    - I really enjoyed "Now You See Me"! (Notably, I did forget about choosing to recommend it twice if that says anything.)
    Music/Artists
    - "Hamilton" by Lin Manuel Miranda changed my life probably. If you already know and love Hamilton, his earlier musical "In the Heights" is worth listening to as well.
    - I really enjoy and appreciate the voice of Panic! at the Disco's lead singer, Brendon Urie.
